Outline of ITOCHU Corporation Japan Machinery Company

The Machinery Company is active in a wide range of fields, from large-scale plants to ships, automobiles and construction machinery, and is building a business with an overseas focus. Primary objective of Machinery Company is to strengthen its financial structure and to expand earning platforms for existing businesses in every field, and it also has a strategy of focusing new loans and investment on growth economies while supporting its existing operating companies.

The Machinery Company comprises two divisions: the Plant Project & Marine Division and the Automobile & Construction Machinery Division, handling an extensive range of products, from large-scale chemical and power plants, bridges, roads, railways, and other social infrastructure to ships, automobiles and construction machinery.
In Plant Project field, in addition to EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) for all types of plant facilities by heavy industry, heavy electric machinery and engineering companies in Japan and abroad, we are also expanding the operational territory to project financing, investment on the assets of plants, M&A, operational maintenance and after-sales service subsequent to plant construction, and businesses where the key words are state-of-the-art technologies, environmental preservation, and alternative energies.

Our operations are not limited to Japan. We trade and invest in businesses on a global scale, based on the deployment of approximately one third of our personnel to overseas bases.
Also, we are creating new earning platforms based on trading devices related to water resources and environment as well as developing businesses related to renewable and alternative energy.

Activity of ITOCHU Australia’s Machinery Department

ITOCHU Australia’s Machinery Division is working to locally promote the varied interests of ITOCHU Corporation Machinery Company’s related divisions & departments and worldwide affiliated companies.

As part of ITOCHU Corporation's strategic emphasis on the water sector, ITOCHU Corporation is participating in the winning Aquasure Consortium bid for the Victorian Desalination Project. ITOCHU Corporation will contribute A$100 million and second directors as a major equity investor in the project.
The project, with a capacity of 150GL/year, will be one of the largest RO-type desalination plants in the world and will meet approximately 30% of the medium-term water supply needs of Melbourne.
The project is also the first desalination project to be delivered by PPP in Australia. All other Australian desalination projects to date have been delivered thorough traditional procurement.

Also as part of the Plant Project field's expansion into project investment, ITOCHU Corporation is currently participating as the Rolling Stock provider co-sponsor and equity investor in the 'GC Connect' consortium for the Gold Coast Rapid Transit (light rail) project.
As one of only three consortia to be recently shortlisted in late May 2010, ITOCHU Corporation is the sole Japanese trading house to remain bidding on this iconic major infrastructure project for Queensland.

ITOCHU Corporation is also currently evaluating numerous other major infrastructure projects in Australia for possible investment and participation, particularly in the fields of water, transportation (rail, tollroads & bridges), power generation (with a particular focus on renewable energy) and waste management.
It is our intention to gradually increase our involvement in such projects in the local market for the foreseeable future.
