Wool

ITOCHU Wool division was established in 1935, and grew considerably during the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s to be a major contributor to ITOCHU's global textile business. From the 1966/67 season, ITOCHU remained the number one buyer of Australian wool at Auction for 40 consecutive years – something that is unlikely to be rivaled in the wool industry ever again.

Sadly, the reduced production of wool in Australia created increased difficulty in trading conditions and consistent operating profit compared to other segments of ITOCHU’s global textile operation. This meant that ITOCHU Wool Limited ceased its trading operation from Australia in 2007 in order to concentrate such resources to other sectors of which Textile Division Company of ITOCHU Corporation are involved.

With so many years of experience and long lasting associations with growers through to retail partners, it was not necessary to finish all wool business completely. ITOCHU Osaka (Textile Material & Fabric Division) continues to remain a key player in wool and other natural fibres for the Japanese and Asian markets. Integration, highest quality and new/special products continues to remain the basis of ITOCHU’s textile operation. Many important and long standing links in wool supply, production and retail still remain to ensure ITOCHU’s blue print in the global wool industry continues.

ITOCHU Australia remains fully involved in such business by way of consulting, assistance and market information. Working closely with ITOCHU Textile Material & Fabric Division and their associated partners is vital to maintain the highest quality service and standards that our clients have come to know and trust from ITOCHU.
